Statement on the Necessity of Protecting Civilians, Ensuring Stability, Preventing Violations, and Holding Regime Remnants Accountable Under the Law
In light of recent developments, the Free Syrian Legal Association (FSLA) affirms that protecting civilians and ensuring their security is a fundamental responsibility that must remain a priority in addressing the ongoing events. The relevant authorities must fulfill their duty to establish stability and prevent any violations that endanger the lives or property of citizens.
Security enforcement must be carried out in accordance with the law and with full respect for human rights to prevent any violations or acts of retaliation outside the framework of justice. Strict measures must also be taken to prevent lawless elements from exploiting the situation for looting or indiscriminate attacks.
The FSLA emphasizes the urgent need for immediate action by the relevant authorities to stabilize the situation and adopt decisive measures that prevent further deterioration of security conditions. Safeguarding society from chaos is a national duty that cannot be neglected.
Accordingly, the FSLA calls for:
1.Ensuring the safety of civilians and preventing any attacks or violations that threaten their lives or property.
2.Deploying military and security forces in accordance with the law to prevent any transgressions that could lead to further disorder.
3.Referring all those involved in crimes to fair and transparent trials without exceptions or selectivity.
4.Imposing strict oversight on security operations aimed at pursuing regime remnants and restoring order to ensure full compliance with national and international human rights laws.
Pursuing and holding regime remnants accountable is a legal responsibility that cannot be compromised, and it must be carried out through appropriate security and judicial procedures. The construction of a new Syria requires a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, ensuring the establishment of a state that upholds the rights of its citizens.
The Free Syrian Legal Association (FSLA) calls on the relevant authorities to adhere to legal responsibility, work towards achieving security and stability within the legal framework, and hold accountable those responsible for violations against civilians.
Protecting civilians, enforcing the rule of law, and ensuring accountability for criminals are fundamental pillars for building a just, strong state that respects human rights.
