The initial proceedings in the lawsuit brought forth by Canada and the Netherlands against the Syrian regime have been postponed, as declared by the International Court of Justice in an official statement released on July 15, 2023.
This lawsuit, centered around allegations of violations of the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman, or Degrading Treatment or Punishment by the Syrian regime, was originally scheduled to commence its oral proceedings on July 19, 2023.
However, the court, after meticulous consideration of the arguments and perspectives of both involved parties, decided to reschedule these proceedings. The Syrian regime had earlier submitted a request for this deferment. The new dates set for these hearings are now October 10-11, 2023.
